Early review of WinMo IE6 includes review of Flash Lite 3.1

WMexperts recently published a review of the forthcoming IE6 for Windows Mobile 6.1 which includes Flash Lite 3.1 as a browser extension. The review mentions the positive and negative aspects of using Flash Lite for experiencing the kind of Flash content typically found on the “desktop PC” web through a non desktop pc device.

Flash Lite and Windows Mobile Internet Explorer 6

According to Brighthand, it looks like momentum is starting around the release of Internet Explorer 6 for windows mobile 6.1. This version of IE supports a pre-installed Flash Lite 3 as an extension of the browser, along with Silverlight. Manufacturers are expected to release devices supporting this version of IE later this year and early 2009.

Flash Lite 3 in Internet Explorer 6 Windows Mobile 6.1

Back in March we read the news that Microsoft had licensed Flash Lite 3 for windows mobile, though at that time there was not much information about which version of windows mobile would support Flash Lite 3 and when devices supporting it might come to market. According to an April 1 Microsoft press release, Flash Lite 3 will be part of Internet Explorer 6 for Windows Mobile 6.1.

Flash Lite 3 on Windows Mobile impact

Adobe’s recent announcement that Microsoft has licensed Flash Lite 3 should shift the mobile news conversation away from iPhone = no flash to Windows Mobile = Flash Lite 3. Obviously having Microsoft license Flash Lite 3 for Windows Mobile is a big deal, and is especially important for the North American market.
