I recently upgraded my N95 8gb to the latest firmware version, v30.0.018. All Flash Lite screensavers are displaying in landscape mode, and there seems to be no way to change them to portrait mode. This was also a problem in a previous firmware update.
According to allaboutsymbian.com, AT&T will be distributing the Nokia 6650 smart phone. This is significant because the 6650 is a S60 v3 fp2 phone supporting Flash Lite, and also should support Nokia WRT applications. There are few models of s60 phones in the US market, with AT&T being the only network that currently carries the platform.
Forum Nokia recently published an article I wrote titled Flash Lite 2.0 screensaver and wallpapers. The article is a series of examples demonstrating ActionScript techniques to adapt the classic “bouncing ball” screensaver animation to different screen sizes.

Forum Nokia recently published my article on using sound in Flash Lite 2.0 for S60 and Series 40 devices. This article is specifically about Flash Lite 2.0, and does not address any improvements in sound handling for Flash Lite 2.1 and 3.0. I tested all examples with Nokia 5300 (Series 40) and Nokia 6290 (S60).
I recently posted a tutorial at Forum Nokia wiki, on how to build reusable Flash Lite 1.1 components. I’ve been working on some slide show based screensavers and thought it would be useful to have a reusable slide show component.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, Nokia has been subtly improving its business relationships with North American network operators to regain market share. This should be good news for Flash Lite market penetration in NA market.
Forum Nokia published my first article on sound for Flash Lite, focusing on Flash Lite 1.1 issues. The 28 page article, Flash Lite 1.1: Sound for Nokia S60 and Series 40 Devices, covers Device Sound and Native audio issues, techniques synchronizing MIDI sound and animation, emulating device sound and many other topics. I included examples to demonstrate concepts from the article. I am finishing a version for Flash Lite 2.0 which hopefully will be available early in 2008.

This time I am sharing my observations on the Nokia series 40 platform, probably the most popular device family amongst developers, for Flash Lite screensaver/wallpaper content.
